Prostate Cancer – Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment | I D Cancer Center

What Is Prostate Cancer?

Prostate cancer develops in the prostate gland, a small walnut-shaped gland responsible for semen production. It is one of the most common cancers in men, especially above the age of 50.

The disease often grows slowly, and many cases are detected early through screening.

⭐ Who Is at Risk?

  • Age > 50 years

  • Family history of prostate cancer

  • BRCA1/BRCA2 gene mutations

  • Obesity, sedentary lifestyle

  • African ancestry (higher risk)

  • Diet high in fatty or processed foods

⭐ Common Symptoms of Prostate Cancer

Many early cases cause no symptoms, making screening crucial.
When symptoms appear, they may include:

Urinary Symptoms

  • Frequent urination (especially at night)

  • Weak urine flow

  • Burning or pain during urination

  • Difficulty starting or stopping urine

General & Advanced Symptoms

  • Blood in urine or semen

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Pain in back, hips, or pelvis

  • Unexplained weight loss or fatigue

If you are above 50 or have a family history, yearly prostate screening is recommended.

⭐ How Prostate Cancer Is Diagnosed at I D Cancer Center

✔ Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test

A simple blood test to detect abnormal PSA levels.

✔ Digital Rectal Examination (DRE)

Assesses prostate size and abnormalities.

✔ Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI)

Provides high-resolution imaging for accurate detection and staging.

✔ MRI/Ultrasound Fusion Biopsy

Targeted biopsy for confirming cancer.

✔ Additional Tests

  • PET-CT

  • PSMA scan

  • Bone scan (if advanced disease suspected)

⭐ Prostate Cancer Staging

  • Stage I–II (Early): Localized within prostate

  • Stage III: Spread outside the prostate capsule

  • Stage IV: Spread to lymph nodes or bone

Early-stage cancers are highly curable.

Reduces testosterone levels to slow tumor growth.
Used in:

  • Intermediate/high-risk disease

  • Advanced disease

  • With radiation for better outcomes

5. Chemotherapy

Used for metastatic or hormone-resistant cancer.

6. Targeted Therapy & Immunotherapy

For selected cases with:
